A real Christmas holiday staple? The homemade wreath with candles: a bright light during the dark and wintery days before Christmas. Let us guide you step by step to create your own floral masterpiece from fresh branches and dried flowers. Have fun with this DIY guide!

You will need:

• 4 candlesticks with candles or LED candles

• Wrapping wire or other strong wire

• Leafy greens such as pine branches, silver acacia and phlebodium leaves

• Ornamental branches and stems such as ilex, dried scabiosa, leucodendron and cordyline leaves

Attach the candle holders

Take the straw wreath as a base and wrap the wire around the wreath to tighten it. Determine where the four candle holders will go and attach them securely.

Make a base of leafy greens

Sort through the leaves and make sure the ends of the stems are free of leaves and needles. The lengths of the stems can all be different, this will create a playful effect later on. Arrange the stems in a counterclockwise direction so that they overlap on the wreath and tie the wrapping wire over the bottom of the stems to secure them in place. You can leave the wrapping wire intact, with the roll next to the wreath, so you can continue to wrap each time you put new stems on the wreath. Only attach stems to the top of the wreath so that the base remains stable.

The finishing touch

Now for the best part: decorating the wreath. Let your creativity run wild. Place a few stems – such as the ilex sprig and the dried Scabiosa – upright in the wreath for a playful effect. To do this, simply drill a small hole in the wreath with a pen or wooden skewer. Make sure to place the upright stems away from the burning candles (or use LED candles as an alternative). Voilà, have fun with your homemade wreath!
