Looking for ways to incorporate more flowers into your festive decor? Us, too. Glass baubles filled with fresh or dried flowers are a modern, stylish alternative to traditional tree decorations. They work magic on a tree, on a festive branch, or hung on a string like bunting above the table. And the best part? They are incredibly simple to make!

All you need

• Glass or plastic baubles

• Festive string or fishing line

• Sprigs of flowers and foliage

Bells, balls, and baubles: what kind to use?

There are many types of fillable decorations out there. We went for small and medium-sized glass baubles with a removable top. Plus, large baubles that open in half, which are perfect for filling with bigger flowers arrangements, like a large spray of gypsophila or sprig of asparagus fern.

Fresh or dried flowers?

Roses, euphorbia, and other flowers that contain a lot of moisture will look beautiful for a day, but as they dry, a layer of condensation — or mould — may appear on the inside of the bauble. Instead, go for flowers and foliage that dry well for lasting style — you want your baubles hanging for sometime!

Floral bauble DIY

Step 1:

Pick your stems. Ready the baubles

Step 2:

Trim the foliage and flowers stems to size.

Step 3:

Gently push the flower or foliage into the bauble opening by folding the leaves around the stem to make it narrower. Going stem first will help avoid damaging the flowers and/or leaves.

TIP:

tweezers can be useful here!

Step 4:

Secure the top onto the bauble. Give it a shake. This helps settle the flower in the bauble.

Step 5:

Thread a loop of string through the top so that you can hang it on your tree, on a branch or anywhere you fancy!
