Exclusive: This is where your peony comes from

For peony season, meet our peony grower Niels

Delivered in a tiny, tight bud. But after a day or two in your vase, it blooms, becoming the undisputed star of your bouquet! Countless, cushion-soft petals in soft pastels. Perfection. We are, of course, talking about the peony! The world’s most beloved flower.

Have you always wanted to know how peonies are grown? In this latest video, it’s peony season all-year round! Join us for an exclusive look behind the garden, where one of our peony growers, Niels Molenaar, takes you on his farm where your peonies go from bud to you.

"Every flower should be an eye-catcher"

– Niels Molenaar

Niels is the most passionate person when it comes to peonies! We call him our very own purveyor of peonies with confidence. This year, we bought no less than 200,000 flowers throughout the short-but-sweet peony season! Every single one went into your bouquets. Of course, both we and he strive for the highest quality – and it comes fresh from his lovingly maintained fields.

Like a pearl in an oyster

Peonies are precious. If you pick one from the plant, a new flower won’t grow to replace until the following year! Once in the vase, they bloom for just 5 to 7 days and then they will begin to lose their first petals. In warm weather, this can be much shorter, about 3 to 6 days. A fleeting gem that you should treasure for their short season in bloom!
