A fabulously-floral DIY: Christmas wrapping paper

Give your gifts a touch of floral flair this holiday season with homemade Christmas wrapping paper — bloomon style.

Whether you grabbed a last-minute present or thought long and hard about the perfect gift for that special someone; a gift is not a gift until it’s properly and beautifully wrapped.

A wonderful wrap shows that you put in extra effort to build suspense and create a moment of happiness before the receiver unwraps their surprise. And, since flowers equal happiness, they are the perfect finishing touch for decorating your presents!

Please note; bloomon cannot be held accountable if you get wrapped — and — trapped in the arms of the lucky receiver.

Happy wrapping

To ensure that your floral decoration pops, choose a simple paper so that the bloom booms — paper with a natural look such as a recycled warm brown is a great choice. Using a woollen string or soft ribbon, gently wrap it around the parcel to bind your gift leaving space for the flower. Attach a little card or tag with a personal message for your loved one and voilà; your present is almost too pretty to open.

Stolen showstopper

Add the finishing touch to your gift by putting a fresh flower between your chosen wrapping paper and string. You can secretly steal a flower from your bloomon bouquet. It’s best not to choose a thirsty diva but to pick a flower that will continue shining for a while without water. Flowers that are sweet and suited are:

  • Dianthus (Carnations)
  • Chrysanths
  • Chamelaucium
  • Small roses
  • Lavender
  • Hypericum coco casino
  • Limonium sinuatum
  • Gypsophila (baby’s breath)

Dashingly dried decorations

If your wrapping needs to look beautiful for longer under the Christmas tree, dried flowers or berries are a perfect alternative to fresh blooms. You can dry flowers yourself by hanging them upside down for a few days and hope that that special person mistakes it for a mistletoe. Flowers that can be dried easily are:

  • Achillea millefolium (Yarrow)
  • Nigella (Love-in-a-mist)
  • Small roses
  • Centaurea cyanus (cornflowers)
  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • Wildflowers
  • Various grasses

Spicy surprise

Going crazy at the thought of having to take flowers out of your festive centrepiece? No worries, you can also find some dreamy details in the kitchen. Cinnamon sticks, a little sprig of rosemary or thyme are festive favourites that make a great alternative to flowers. Feeling fruity? Give your gift a twist by using a dried slice of lemon or citrus fruit. Attach your chosen champion to your wrapping and it will not only look fab, but smell great! These decorations will stay pretty throughout Christmas and show off your sense of style!
